Rainbows and the new Mitsubishi DLPs...

I've been eyeing the giant 82" Mits DLPs at Best Buy for a few weeks, but have not had a good chance to audition with my own material.

I have had problems with looking at DLPs in the past (I see rainbows), and am wondering if there are any owners out there who have a similar issue, and if it is still prevalent in DLPS?

I have a large Mits DLP but I don't experience the rainbow effect. I think if you see it on one dlp, then you would see it on all dlp sets since the technology is the same. If it bothers you then you may want to look into a different tech.

I think that 6x or so wheels are still pretty common with DLP home products. The color wheel speed is a big factor in the RBE issues that people experience and I can immediately see when a product is a 2x business class DLP projector while 5x+ wheels produce far less effects when I am viewing.

LED w/DLP is supposed to be phenomenal because the flashing of the LED aparently mimics a 100x or so color wheel and is almost impossible for even the most RBE sensitive people to see any color separation in.

Unfortunately, that would require purchasing a DISCONTINUED Samsung, as the last remaining party manufacturing DLP's, Mitsubishi, only uses standard halogen lamps and expensive lasers for their uber high-end line.

I'd say forget the dim 82" screens, as the 92" rear projection DLP's should be out this summer!

I haven't seen who has produced what in rear projection, but since I'm a big front projection fan, I know there are a number of choices available in LED light engines and there will be a ton more coming in future years I expect.

Really, I just provided the information as an FYI, and if Mits. isn't on the LED engine yet, then hopefully they at least give you a 5x color wheel.
