racially motivated delays

I'm a little steamed about this one, but I'll try to contain myself.

Is anyone else upset that a bunch of African American leaders got up in front of the camera and actually accused our government of delaying their response because of people's racial and social status? Not only is this sad and pathetic, it is in no way constructive. Instead of them sitting around and figuring out how they can help the situation, they sat around and decided how they would play the "race card." If they were upset about the perceived slow response and they wanted to get the process moving, there is certainly other ways to do it. Flat out accusing the government of letting people die because they are black is ignorant and unexcuseable in my mind.

When Condoleeza Rice was asked about the comments she tried to play down the comments by saying that "people are very emotional right now." She seemed embarassed by the comments to me. She actually spoke very eloquently and intelligently. I wish more of the supposed African American leaders would take their cue from her.

Yeah, I saw that to. My mother by chance came over. We both were disgusted. And decided that the person speaking (no names), was clearly racial. We turned it off and tried to find some real news.

Agreed!

See my other post in Anybody else upset!

Blame the government or play the race card that way they don't have to help themselves.

BTW, I like Condoleeza Rice {Condy, as I call her :)}

I saw that too and decisively flipped the channel to something far more entertaining -the Boomerang channel. There I watched the Tasmanian Devil try to capture Bugs Bunny for an afternoon lunch :)

Thats funny, when I was trying to find some better news - It was in between abnormal news times. So I ended up watching a rerun of Married With Children.
But I did catch enough of that statement to be in disgust....

I didn't see it, But honestly, I've been waiting for some idiot to make a statement to that regard. Granted my comments on the government's handling of the situation have not been kind, but I find it deplorable that some one would use it as leveredge in their political motivations or aspirations.
Please don't tell me their intials were JJ.

Just a little follow-up, in a disaster it first goes to local government to try and handle a crisis, then it goes to state government and then finally to the feds.{so stop beating on the Bush! :p}

Now without trying to sound racist or deragutory, the mayor of New Orleans is a black man who delayed in getting help and the Governor {white woman} was even worse in deploying her resources.{she's a Dem. by the way :p }

So you think the delay in help is incompetence rather than maliciousness? You may be right about that, though it sure would be more convenient for Bush and his cronies if the black people were killed, as it would save them the trouble of preventing them from voting, as is usually the case.

When the people were told to leave New Orleans, no one did anything to get poor people out. When one is warned of a natural disaster, the warning, by itself, can be useless, if the people who are warned do not have enough money to leave or enough money to stay in a hotel somewhere else for however long the disaster lasts. And the idea that it could not be predicted is a joke, given that the levies were designed to withstand a category 3 huricane, and it was known that this was a category 5 huricane before it hit. See:

But, hey, the Republicans who are running this country could all be morons instead of intentionally getting people killed.

So what your saying is that the federal government should have known who could not make it out and drove up to there home, rang the door bell and ask them to exit there house because we know you are a poor black person that can't help yourself?

It's easy to play the blame game after a disastor of this magnitude. No one was ready for such a travesity and you can't expect a relief effort requiring thousands of agencies to just mesh together and work seemlessly.

Cold hard truth is it's going to take time and that's true regardless of race, color, creed, or religion.

People's own apathy and ignorance are what usually prevent them from voting, not specific politicians. The average person is so stupid and lazy that they cede their right to have a say in things to those who can actually be bothered to participate.

That doesn't prevent them from *****ing about things, though. :rolleyes:

Yeah, we all know it was the white, republican mayor of New Orleans that refused to use those now flooded school busses to get those poor black people out of the city just so he could implement his own version of urban renewal.

I'll see your link and raise you this. Check out all the relevant sub links as well. You just might learn something, but with your attitude, I strongly doubt it. The force of blind hatred and denial (or de mississippi? :rolleyes: ) is strong in some.

Wow. There is nothing like a good republican hating, armchair quarterback with 20/20 hindsight to tell us what everyone did wrong. It's just unfortunate that you aren't in charge or everyone could have been saved.

The last time I checked thousands of people were being rescued from their rooftops. If they own a home, I guarantee you they own a vehicle. If they own a vehicle, they can drive to safety. The poor people were in the safest place they had to go. The superdome. Now if we didn't have to use all our resources to pluck these people off their rooftops 1 or 2 at a time, maybe we could have focused quicker on the larger groups of people.

You can't sufficiently prepare for this type of natural disaster. No one can predict what is going to happen. All you can do is warn people and hope they have the good sense to get out of the way. It is not the federal government's job to go in and evacuate people beforehand. That is what state and local governments are for. You also can't force stubborn people to leave an area.

These results have been predicted by many experts!! That didn't stop people from sticking around and seeing what would happen. If all the people with the ability to leave the city would have, then the "poor" people would have been easily cared for as the numbers would have been managable.

Like I said, it is too bad that you aren't in charge. Or a democrat. Because if the democrats were in charge none of this would have happened. I think the democrats would have built a giant wind machine and just blown the hurricane back to the south. Unfortunately the republicans were too dumb to come up with a sweet idea like that.

Your politically charged comments are ignorant and useless.

Whether you people like it or not, the accepted idea in the black community is, if the majority of victims in New Orleans had been white help would have arrived sooner. Just why did it take the Bush administration so long to mobilize help? The TV coverage showing whites taking needed supplies and blacks "looting" did not help in the eyes of the black community. By the way Alandamp, owning a home is not in any way related to owning a car. Just ask millions of New York City dwellers. When you say things like that you are showing your limited knowledge of city life. In the case of NYC residents for example, a substantial percentage do not even have a drivers licence:cool:

Yes, all the brilliant black people figured it out. It was because all us white folk hate them and want to see them go. Especially Republicans. They really hate black people. George. He's the worst of them all. I think he still has black slaves, but don't quote me.

Ya, so. Blame the media. Is this the fault of George Bush also? He must have called CNN and told them to only show blacks looting.

My point was if they have enough money to own a home, they have enough money to leave the city. I could care less whether they drive or own a car. They had the financial means to leave the city. If you are trying to tell me that none of those people on their rooftops owned cars, then I would say you are incorrect.

Yeah I thought it was great to. I had added this on post #4 I think. And I truly believe freedom of speech is fine, but freedom of speach from a sane person. Clearly if you want to disagree with the article thats fine, but if you have any inkling of justifying statements made on the news, about delays. Then you need to read that article, HELL I WOULD NOT WANT PEOPLE SHOOTING AT ME EITHER......

For all, remember my first statement. And I emphasize on a normal sane person. And any justifying looting, murder and oh my gosh rape, is clearly not a sane person, and should be banned from this site immediately.
I urge Clint, Gene, and the mods to keep an eye on that post. And seriosly think about banning anyone who justifies it.... I'm serious..
