Quiet Onkyo 876...???

I recently repurposed my HT gear into a 2ch listening area. I toyed around with the idea of getting a dedicated integrated amp and auditioned a Yamaha S500.

Long story short short I decided I missed FM radio to much and went back to my 876.

I've noticed that it doesn't seem to get loud. Kind of weird. The volume increases and it gets louder but it's not nearly as loud as the S500 was.

It's as if it's dampened to much... Any ideas? I've tried with and without room correction. At least I think, I did a factory reset and it didn't help.

The Onkyo is 140W into 8 Ohms. I am running to a set of 6 Ohm SVS Towers (St01) Vs the Yamahas 85 @ 8ohm

I've kind of always noticed that if I turned it up loud it never seemed to "get loud". But it's more apparent now that I listened to another source with my gear.

Maybe I just need to turn it up more? I've never really been passed -15db on the display...

Be sure that you don't have some kind of processing engaged on the Onkyo. In particular, I would be looking for some kind of dynamic range compression.

Same for the Yammy, could be some processing or a "loudness" option engaged.

Yeah, try cranking it up higher. As long as you aren't getting distortion or obvious sounds of abuse, it should be ok.
