This is probably asked alot but here goes again. Im hooking up my first system and have the Yamaha RX-V663. Im hooking up my PS3 and Toshiba A3 HD DVD via hdmi and that takes up both HDMI inputs on the reciever. So im wanting to hook up my HD DVR box straight to the 56" samsung. Now here is the question.... If i hook it via hdmi to the tv and run digital optical out to receiver, will it work? This away i dont have to always use the reciever to watch tv. SHould i use HDMI or Video compant to go to the tv? And will ether one lose 1080i picutre?

I think you want to run HDMI from the device to the TV for best picture and run optical (toslink) from your device to the receiver optical input for sound (i.e. Dolby 5.1).

I gotta agree with what Exit said. That or you could look into adding an hdmi switcher, that would allow you to have more connections to your reciever.
