Quick Question on making cables...

I decided to redo my speaker cables since my first attempt yielded good, but not great results on the appearance side. I've got the cables all set with the exception of the banana plugs.

I'm using the Canare wire so each terminal has two wires twisted together. Should I solder the bare wire so prior to slipping it into the connectors? Does that make a better piece of wire to go into the connector? If so, can you give me specifics on the best way to do it? A little, a lot, the tip, the whole bare wires part, etc.

Thanks guys.

Yes, tin the bare wire.

The easiiest way is to touch the soldering iron to the wire and heat the wire. Then touch the solder to the wire to melt. The wire should suck up the solder and make the twisted strands solid; this is called tinning. This will provide a better connection for banana plugs or speaker posts.

Remember always use rosin core solder fro electrical work. You won't normally find acid core solder.
