Im useing one I just got along with a Panasonic VIERA and have them hooked up via the HDMI on the recievers out/ HDMI tv in on tv. Problem is, I can only pull up the avr's menu on the tv when the reciever is set on tuner (and the tv is set on the hdmi input I'm useing. Its a bit odd but I cannot pull up the recievers menu to change audio or any other settings while the avr is set on dvd while watching a movie. Im currently useing an older sony dvp player that does'nt support hdmi, so I have it hooked up with its analog component/ digital out. Would this be the reason? I don'nt think so but I cant figure out why in the manual so I thought I
d try asking here. Thankyou

Yes, I'd say that is definitely the reason. The on screen menu has to be overlayed on a video signal and only works over HDMI. You don't have a video signal over HDMI, so there is nothing on which to overlay the menu.

Ok thanks for confirming that. I was just playing around with it some more and, same scenerio..but now I found that the avr's menu won't even open on the recievers window while watching a dvd, so its impossible to adjust settings unless Im listeing to the tuner? What gives?

What gives is that the AVR can only overlay the menus on a video signal that arrives via HDMI and you have none.

Yes I got that. The avr is still somewhat analog friendly so why wouldnt it at least allow you to set it up/ adjust it while set to dvd, on the reciever menu? it would be nice to be able to at least adjust the audio. What you said makes sense (i get the jest of it) why it wouldnt relay the signal to the tv. what if I were useing it strictly for audio, I'd be out of luck when I want to adjust audio? that doesnt make sense..

It would allow you to adjust audio settings using the on-screen menu while playing a DVD if the DVD player were connected via HDMI.

It doesn't matter which settings you want to adjust. The menu must be overlaid on top of a video signal and it can only do it when that video signal is arriving using an HDMI input. It works with Tuner because the signal did not originate from one of the external source inputs and there is no video anyway - thus it superimposes the menu on a black (or whatever color) background.

I wish it would work for you, but this is a limitation of most AVRs with on-screen menus.
