Questions on my Craigslist AE purchase

Hello everyone,

I just picked up the Acoustic Energy Aegis Three's for $50, they're in mint condition.

I've been out of the audio scene for many years, and am starting to get back into it. There really was not much info that I could dig up, but I'm guessing it's a pretty good deal.

With that said, I do have a few questions I hope you can help me out with- I had a small budget so this was all I could afford.

I'm running a 5.1 tSc LCR2's (powered by an HK AVR 247)center and fronts and two tSc P6's in the rear. Tried to post links to them, but I need five posts, sorry folks.

Now, I'm not sure about my placement with the AE's, whether I would use these as fronts or rears for optimal sound.

I'm sure the AE's will not match well with the tSc's, so any recommendations on what to match these with? I use this set up for music and gaming.

Final question, on the back of the speakers where they connect to the speaker wire, the top row is listed as *HF* and the bottoms as *LF* I'm guessing this is high and low frequency?

Any help appreciated,

Thank you,

Josh

Not really sure about the speakers a quick google search just turned up the generic specs about them. As for the 2 sets of binding post on the back you are correct. They are for high and low inputs so you can bi-amp them if you want. It's not needed though. There should be a jumper of some sort between the two so you only need to run one speaker wire to them, if not you could just use a short piece of speaker wire.

Thanks Highbar,

From what I have been reading, the jury is still out on whether or not bi-amping makes much of a difference, the masses appear to be split.

I take it I should put those in the front since they will be putting out the majority of sound.

Thanks again for the info.

You definitely got a good deal. AE is a renowned audio manufacturer in the ranks with many other good British speaker manufacturers.

Bi-amping only has a real advantage if you are actually getting more power or if an active x-over is being used, the active x-over making the most profound affect.

I've got a little AE system, the AEGO-M. I think the M is an outstanding little sub/sat computer system. If the quality of AE products in general has any relationship to my experience withe the M, you've got yourself one heck of a deal.

Thanks Davemcc,

I had the opportunity to hook them up today. They sure do sound nice compared to the budget build I have, money well spent. However, I backed myself into a corner. My center and two rears just are not cutting it with the AE's, so I have to try and find something that will match. Let the vicious cycle start all over again ;)
