why do you think it would be a significant upgrade? Power wise, it's pretty much an audiable draw, What features do you need that your current receiver lacks and that the new one has?

Unless you can provide these answers, you won't know if it's an upgrade or simply throwing away money.

That's a nice setup.

The LCR (especially, if run as 'large') take up a majority of power when compared to the surrounds. Since you have offloaded this duty to the Outlaw Amps (and bass + LFE to the subs), the Onkyo should have enough power to drive the surrounds.

Are you hearing the surrounds distort (an indication of lack of power in the Onkyo or driver overload)?

The only reason why I am thinking of this change and think of it being an upgrade is because of its video processor. But I guess you are telling me it is not really an upgrade as far as its audio capability?

Thank you! I do have the LCR set to large. And no, I am not hearing any distortion. It could be because I am using the monoblock to power them. But I was wondering if the video processor made a big difference??

If I were to make any changes to your system:
a) Set mains to small
b) sell both smaller subs and get one good one
c) consider changing "Self Made Ubuntu Media Center PC" to be a backend server and getting a hardware frontend client like Netgear NeoTV 550, Boxee Box or Dune HD\\

Don't worry much about AVR, If I'd consider changing it only thing would be better audyssey system, especially MultiEQ XT32 and BassXT

I am just curious. Why do you recommend to go small from large? Second, any recommendation for the sub? and lastly what is the major advantage by going to the frontend servers you had mentioned?? Thank you!

a) Bass Management Basics and Get Good Bass — Reviews and News from Audioholics

b) depends on the size of your room and budget, but in general models from SVS and Rythmic is the ones I like

c) Linux doesn't support BD and HD audio at all - a $99 device like netgear mentioned above does - plus lower power usage and instant power on/off
So you could backup your BD disks and don't worry about scratching them while still all the features
