not sure where to ask this but

is it possible to wire a Klipsch RW 12 sub into a car?

Thanks

theoretically, yes.

...but you're gonna need one heckuva big and expensive inverter to supply enough 120v at the heavy current requirements of this sucka.

Like I said, theoretically, yes, but practically, no.

If you have a hatchback and really don't need the storage space, you could bolt down the sub and the giant inverter in the hatchback space or remove the back seats if you rarely have more than one passenger.

Note: this suggestion is purely in jest...

That kind of reminds me of when I purchased all my stuff and the "helper" at the AV store wheeled it out to the parking lot and noticed I was in my 350Z. I was kind of caught up in the excitment and never thought about getting the stuff home. The sub alone was almost the exact size of my car...ehhh...
Needless to say; I left the helper and my S.O. in the parking lot and said I will be right back...

I'm not an expert here, by any stretch, so someone correct me if I'm wrong. An inverter is a device that converts your car's dc (direct current), 12 volt electrical system to 120 volt, ac (alternating current) used by household electrical devices such as your Klipsch. They come in all wattage sizes...from 100w to several thousand watt capabilities. The smaller ones can be plugged into your car's inverter sockets (if you have them...my 4Runner has them all over the thing), or even cigarette lighter socket, but the larger inverters probably need to be wired directly into your cars electrical system (battery, perhaps?). The power hungry amp in your sub will require a 'big' one...depending upon its wattage requirements. (Don't worry, they aren't as big as your sub, lol.)

EDIT: I'm with clint....I'd like to hear it! :)

Did you really consider the practicality of doing this?

Believe me, if you had any background in this area you would know how foolish this idea is. Do you really think an inverter that delivers enough clean power for this is practical?

http://www.klipsch.com/products/details/rw-12.aspx#specifications

You may want to call Klipsch themselves to see how many watts that inverter would need to supply and then call this place.

http://www.donrowe.com/inverters/puresine.html

You might give 'em a call and tell them what you want to use it for after talking to Klipsch as to how many watts that mutha draws.

Have fun, but keep offa my street at night.

alright another question before i start to dig, what kinda cash would i be looking at spending to match this "thump" with a car subs?

Apples to oranges

Different creatures with different design goals. This a home sub designed for home use in large areas off of 120v. Car subs are designed for use in smaller spaces and off of 12-14v.

This is basically a home stereo forum. Perhaps an autosound forum will be better able to answer that, unless someone else here has some input. Don't you have any local buds in da hood or autosound stores in your area? They're easier to find than decent stereo shops.

But, considering the area in which they are designed to work, I'll venture a guess that it'll be a heckuva lot less trouble than continuing with this miscegenation

So, start diggin'.

Well it sounds like you aren't really planning on using that sub for what it's made for so you could always just take the sub itself out of the enclosure and either build or buy another enclosure and get a car amplifier to power it. It's not what I would do with that sub but I'm sure it will work.

Why not just get a subwoofer that's meant to be installed in a car?
