Question: Troubleshooting Amp & Volume Controls

I'm using a MX1260 amp along with VMT-100 impedance matching volume controls (All Phoenix gold).
I have 6 pair of speakers in different rooms attached to the amp with 6 volume controls.
All of the volume controls are working fine, except one. This particular volume control, after turning on the amp for less than 5 minutes, got extremely hot and part of it's circuit board turned black. I could smell it burning, that's when I turned off the amp. The speakers in this room were playing initially, but stopped around the time I started smelling the burning.

What could have caused this?

I have the impedance jumpers on each volume control set to 8x.

A possible short in that speaker run? Or in that volume control?

The other thing is that since you are powering each speaker with its own amp, the VC jumper should be set for 1X.
