Question regarding static in a multi speaker set-up

I have a multi-speaker in wall set up in my house. 8 speakers running off of a single receiver (Yamaha HTR-5860) through a Stereo Selector with impedance protection (TS8LS)

one of the speakers has static. i figure i would need to replace the speaker so figured I could disconnect it until i was able to replace or investigate further. As soon as i disconnected it I heard static coming from two other speakers!

I reconnected the speaker and the static went away from the other speakers and returned to the originakl one.

Any ideas what would cause this?

You didn't mention where you did the disconnection: at the speaker or at the receiver. If you did it at the receiver, I'd suspect poor connections there, which were bumped while you were rewiring the problematic speaker.
