Question regarding HK AVR240 setup...

I am still learning and trying to understand the setup of this new AVR240...

1) I wanted to know if there is a way I can attach my wireless headphones to the receiver and still receive sound through my speakers.
(I need this, when I am watching/listening in the living room and need to continue, while going around the home)

2) Probably this could be related to my first question: Is there a way I can have the audio passed to my TV audio connection (so my tv speakers are active as well). Currently I am only able to connect the monitor cable from my receiver to my TV and not the audio.

Appreciate if you can help me in this.

Thanx

I think there should be audio outputs, either pre-amp or through-put for "monitor".

Or, you could split the 2-channel output from your cable box and send one set of cables to the receiver and one to the TV. For the headphones, you'd probably have to do a similar setup, unless the headphones don't have their own volume control.

I tried connecting the receiver's preout to my TV's audio input...it didn't work!

I need all the audio that is routed thru' my receiver and not the cable-box!
I am surprised that such advanced receivers don't have a simple provision?!
I am sure there must be a way around this..

Please help!

Thanx

Forgive me...but I am confused by the question. First you said 'Currently I am only able to connect the monitor cable from my receiver to my TV and not the audio.' and then you said 'I tried connecting the receiver's preout to my TV's audio input...it didn't work!'.

If the TV has an audio INPUT then you can connect anything to it, it's just a question of what is sent to it. If the TV audio input is labeled Video 1 you must change the input on the TV to Video 1 - if it is set to TV or Cable you will get whatever signal is coming from a cable connected the antenna input.

It would help if you describe what is connected now and how. I assume you want the cable box and all other source devices connected to the receiver with the video going to the TV but also want the TV speakers active at the same time. Is that correct?

The pre-outs of the receiver (front left and right) should work, you could try one of the record outs. If the receiver has video and audio outs on one of its inputs, like Video 2, it will be active when Video 2 is selected. The catch is that it may not still send the video out the monitor out, so you would also have to connect the video from video 2 out to the TV (instead of using Monitor Out).

Just split the left/right analog audio cables coming out of the cable box and run one set to the receiver and the other set to the TV.

Why would you want everything to play everything through the TV? That is sort of backwards and defeats the purpose of the receiver...

As MDS said though, if the TV has a stereo audio input, then you have to switch to that input to hear what the receiver is sending - which means all your video also needs to be sent to that input as well, most likley via the receiver.

What input types do the headphones have? My receiver allows me to have both the headphone output and the receiver playing to the speakers at the same time, however you are also limited to stereo output once you plug the headphones in.

Let me answer this in parts...sorry for the lack of clarity in my earlier statement(s) and thanks for your understanding and responses!

"Quote from MDS: It would help if you describe what is connected now and how. I assume you want the cable box and all other source devices connected to the receiver with the video going to the TV but also want the TV speakers active at the same time. Is that correct?"

Yes!

1) I would like all the audio and video to be routed thru' my receiver.
Currently this stands achieved!
2) If possible I would like to route the audio from the receiver to the tv - if possible. If I am able to do this, I could be concurrently listening to the audio from my speaker system and can plug my wireless headsets to the tv and will be able to listening remotely...while I am not in my living room.

3) I am able to connect the Video out (labeled 'Monitor' in the receiver) from the receiver to the video input of my TV. There is no audio out from the receiver that I could connect to the TV audio. When I tried to connect the Preouts from the receiver (audio) to my TV, I am still not receiving the audio on the TV.

4) Currently, when I plug my headset to the receiver, it cut's off the audio from the receiver to the speaker, keeping my headset only active.

Quote from Cyberbri: "Just split the left/right analog audio cables coming out of the cable box and run one set to the receiver and the other set to the TV."
--------------

This could only take care of audio from one source (cable box)!

5) The idea is to simply be able to get the audio out (either to the TV or for my wireless headset) from my receiver after all my different sources (DVD, VCR, Cable, CD Player) are routed thru' the receiver.

Hope, I was clear this time. Thanx again for all your input and truly appreciate your help!

Is there a tape monitor or other output you can use?

And what other sources do you want to have go through the stereo and the TV? DVD player?

You might be able to just use a stereo RCA to mini jack adapter cable to give you output via the receiver's output (or a tape loop as mentioned by cyberbri) to the headphones. This would prevent the disconnecting of the main speakers when the headphone jack is used.

Something like this.

The only other thing I can think of would be to use a cheap device switcher with enough inputs, split the left/right audio cables for each device, and run one set to the receiver and the other set to the switcher. The switcher would then run to the TV, where the headphones could be plugged in.

But with DVD, and maybe even the cable box, I would assume the digital audio cable would be used for DD/DTS, which means the separate analog outputs of those devices could be sent separately to the switcher. The reason there may be no audio output from the receiver with these devices is the receiver may not convert the (5.1) digital audio to 2-channel analog for outputting.
