question on Yamaha receivers (presence speakers)

I have question about how to place presence speakers that my new yamaha receiver requires inorder to take advantage of a much more involved dsp soundfield.

The manual says to toe them slightly inward

Would that mean toe them inward to face the listening area?

The presence speakers usually go on top of the mains but with wider placement.

so they don't need to be toed in as much

they are placed wider apart, though.

but their not toed in like the fronts, the fronts are aimed at the listening area.

the presense speaker are spaced wider but only angled just a couple degrees torward the room more like aimed torward the room rather than listening area

is this placement okay, anyone?

I don't have a Yamaha receiver nor have ever used presence speakers but I'll give my opinion for what it's worth.

The intent of presence speakers is to widen the soundstage so they should be placed outside the mains, but whether they should be toed-in, aimed straight at the listening position, or even toed-out is going to be personal preference and dependent on the room.

If they are placed very wide outside of the mains, then toeing-in slightly might be appropriate. If they are placed just slightly outside the mains it may be best to aim them straight ahead or even toe them out slightly so they point at the nearest reflecting surface, like the side walls.
