Short answer: My hunch is that you will lose some low end response.
Long answer: M&K designed the subwoofer to work with a certain driver and enclosure. You can see how changing the internal volume will influence the sound by mapping out the enclosure sizes using a program such as WinISD, provided you have the driver specifications. My recommendation would be to cut the larger hole in the original cabinet and then use some acoustic stuffing to make up for the little bit of volume lost by having a larger plate amplifier.
