I'm the original owner of a pair of JBL 250's purchased about 25 years ago and upgraded to the ti version when the kit was released. I just removed one of the woofers to have the foam surround replaced and was curious if there is, these many years later, a better material than the classic yellow (fiberglass?) dampening material that the lines the interior of the cabinet? TIA to all for any help or direction.

Dampening material

Build quality, bracing and dampening material all effect cabinet resonance. Do a quick nuckle test on the JBLs and listen for a hallow, echo sound.
If you still want to upgrade, something like No-res foam would be an improvement over the fibergas.
