Question on impedance and Mordaunt Shorts...

Mordaunt Short lists the impedance for most of their speakers as "4-8 ohms" (only time i've ever seen a range listed) yet many receivers have a distinct 4 or 8 setting. For those of you that have these speakers, which setting do you use?

Many thanks.

All dynamic speakers will have a range of impedance. You most frequently find the nominal impedance cited by the specifications which will not be the minimum impedance.

Reportedly, receivers and amplifiers with a speaker nominal impedance selector tend to use it just to enable a current limiter for higher volumes on the lower impedances. In other words, they don't do very much except protect you from yourself ;).

So, in this case, just leave your receiver's impedance setting at eight ohms.
