Question on Denon 3805

I have Denon 2801 and looking to upgrade to 3805, as my local dealer has a few left for $650. I have Polk RM600 with PSW450 12" sub.
Does anyone have any opinions on whether I should purchase the 3806 instead? I probably won't have HDMI use for a long time. Basically I listen to music on DVD's and Radio and watch a few movies. Also would I get the same sounds using the 5 channel stereo on the 3805 as I do on my 2801?

Elagrua,

don't think twice. At that price level, it's a real steal!!
If you're not worried about HDMI, just go for it, you won't be disappointed.
The 3805 is a fantastic piece of gear.

Enjoy the sound!

650??? That is an outstanding price! You should do it before that dealer runs out. Especially if HDMI is not a big deal for ya.

Yes Authorize dealer stores in New Jersey

Yes, the price is right for $650, but when you buy Denon mic for $65 my total is now $715 and for $920 is it worth it just to get the 3806 instead now.

The mic is a waste of money as the 3805 sounds better when you set the EQ to "manual" and make adjustments yourself. or have the EQ set to "off". IMO, the adjustments the mic makes are way off. My sub was set to -5!!!!! Use a tape measure, or get one of those fancy electronic tape measures with the red beam, for distance.

I have a new TV with one HDMI input and would love to have the 3806 now as both the HD cable box and DVD player use HDMI.

Hi Johnny,

I totally agree with you on that. Tell you what: when I got mine, I've run 3 different tests, for comparison purposes, according to the following:

1) performed the settings with an original Denon mic from a friend on mine;
2) performed the settings with a professional grade mic (Shure SM 58);
3) performed the settings with the built-in mic on my RS SPL meter (by pluging an RCA cable at the SPL's phono out and then into the Denon's LEFT channel at the auxiliary port).

To my hears, the adjustments made with the Shure mic is no. 1, followed by the RS SPL and only then by the Denon mic, so I came to a conclusion that having the original Denon mic is a waste of money. MY 0.2 cents!

By the way Johnny, I've send a thread yesterday about the Manual EQ Settings on the 3805 and haven't got an answer, so far. Maybe is a silly question, but I'd like to get that clear, so perhaps you could help me out on that. Let me have your comments on that, please.

Cheers / Avliner

Set your speaker distance with a tape measure. Then set your 3805 eq with your favorite cd using 2 channel stereo. Once you dial in the eq to your taste, set the rest of the speakers the same way - 5.1 or 7.1 stereo, as well as dsp modes. That little eq in the 3805 is golden.
