I currently have my 3805 Bi-amped and am very happy with the extra control and headroom I am getting.

I followed the instructions posted on this forum to do this, which call for using the analog preouts to an available input source. I need to use the analog preouts for something else and am wondering if I can used the Digital optical out or the digital Co-ax out for the bi-amping mechanism.

If anyone has experience with this please share.

Perhaps there is another solution to the problem. I am trying to send a preout signal to a wireless audio video (Terk Leapfrog) transmitter, and want to get around running analog cables from all my digital sources so that I could use the available zone 2. (Apparently zone 2 or 3 do not send signals from digital sources)

Thanks in advance,

Have you tried using the tape out? It carries a signal and should work as an extra output for your other source. Hope it helps.

You cannot use the optical or digital outputs. With this bi-amp setup, what you are doing is sending a line-level signal out the pre-amp outputs and back into the receiver to be amplified. Optical and coax digital cables carry data in s/pdif or pcm format, not line-level signals.

Zone2 features generally can utilize a pre-out connection or be powered by the internal amplifiers. You should be able to use the zone 2 preouts to connect to the terk and then go into the menu system and assign the back surrounds to zone 2 preout. You can't get around the 'analog only' requirement. If you don't connect analog cables from, say your DVD player, you won't get any sound when you engage Zone 2 because the receiver will only look at the analog inputs for signals to send out the zone 2 pre-outs.
