I was just wondering... when you are listening to music, just in stereo mode with no other amps or anything, at what range do you use your volume? Like do you never go higher then -10 or do some of you listen to it in the +'s or?? I know it be different for different speakers, and different cd's as well, but just to get a general idea. My speakers are 8 ohm, 91 db sensitivity, rated 10-250 watts, and I usually listen anywhere from -15 down to -40 or 50 something. It is kinda loud at -15, and dont want to turn it much louder thinking maybe the speakers wont like it or can i crank this up to like 0 and just blare the tunes for awhile?

I've got a RX-V2500, and it runs about minus 30 for music louder than I need to play it. That's with Infinity Alpha's, rated at 91 sensitivity, 8 ohm.

My 1500 is loud at -20. I'll go to -10 or -5 if I want it real loud in Pure direct mode.

I have a RXV1500 with NHT SB3 speakers. Somewhere between -25 and -15 would be "normal" listening volumes for me. At -5 with no crossover (speakers set to large) heavy bass will occasionally bottom out the speaker. -5db would be an uncomfortable volume for extended listenting... at least for me.

I have a 2500, and I usually have it around 0 dB, or even as high as +3 dB, depending on the quality and type of recording on the CD. I use Pure Direct when listening to music, and my speakers are 6 ohm nominal, 4 ohm minimum, and I think they are in the 89-90 dB efficient.

I have a 1400. 0dB is about right for me. +3 on good quality. I also use direct when using a 2-channel source. I use DTS if it is an option over DD, otherwise I use DD for dvd's. I do not use all the extra mess. I use the format that is on the disc or dvd.

Speakers are 4ohm. 87dB.

I just had to mention this from Yamaha's FAQ, not sure if they are justing trying to get people to upgrade or what, but-

And that is why Yamaha recommends that you do not turn up your volume control past the halfway point.
If you find that the sound is not loud enough for your liking (at the halfway point), we recommend that you consider buying a larger power amplifier.

Is 40 or 50 halfway, or is it measured differently? Also in another FAQ they say you can "safely" turn the volume up to about -15db. Anything beyond that may induce clipping, but it sounds like people are able to go beyond that fairly easily.

I believe 0 to be half way on my unit. If I listen at 0 it is only for one or maybe two songs. Then she gets cut back down. If I go to +3, it is only for a very short period.
