Hi there,

Just a quick question. Recently got the mentioned yammy and am very chuffed with it. My only concern is that when it is turned on and not in use (set to cdr or hdd) it is making some noise. Sounds like the hard drive is doing something along with repeating series of three "ticks". Whilst I'm not sure it why it should be doing that I don't think it is a fault as the intervals are all identical. It makes the noise 50 secs after you turn it on, lasts for 70 secs and repeats this from then on every six minutes. It is getting really annoying when I just leave it on when not playing music. Not sure why but doubt a fault would be so consistent. Whilst making the noise swithching groups/starting play the sound stops and everything is fine. Just wondering if this is what other yammys are doing. Any input would be greatly appreciated - contacted Yamaha and they said sounds like normal operation but would love to hear from some other owners. Many thanks in advance.

Yammie "Ticks"

Hi Ug.

I have the same machine and it makes no noise at all. Once the hard drive spins up on initial power-up, it runs silent. Although I haven't even touched all it's features I am quite pleased wiht this machine.

It sounds lke you will have to take it in for repair or replacement.

Thanks very much for the reply ****. I was a bit suspicious by Yamaha's reply, particularly as they failed to answer the part of my question of if it's supposed to do that then what is it actually doing? Don't remember the demo model doing it and it is very loud. Will get a replacement. I've had quite a play with it though and overall it is an excellent unit. User interface not great but once you've mastered it just having all your cds alphabetically and flicking through them so quickly is great. Thanks again

Hi Ug.

I did not record my disks alphabetically so finding a CD is a bit if a pain but I usually leave it on random and let it run for hours.

The CD/HD Player has a video driver built in and I plan to purchace a small (7 - 12") LCD monitor to see if that improves the interface. I will try plugging my laptop to the machine to see how that works as well.

I am in no hurry as it is summer in the north country so I do my outdoor work (landscaping the wife's new home) while the weather cooperates. The home theater systems are one of my in-door (winter) projects.

Good luck.

Hi D ick,

You can actually put your cds in alphabetical order. I title each disc "Band - Album Title" and then "rename" them (which is the yamaha's lingo for renumber for some reason) to the right disc number. If that disc number is already used, it bumps up the disc it replaces and all after it by one disc number. This way you can have all your discs in order alphabetically. Hope this is of some help.

Oh, and I also use just a composite video cable to hook up the cd player to my tv which is some help. The display isn't hugely different but you do get about 8 discs listed on screen at once.

Hi Ug.

I was going to connect to my big screen but I wish to keep cables to a minimum that is why I will set up a small LCD directly to the CD/HD.

Thanks for the tip about the CD name/number. I will keep this in mind when I sit down to "re-jig" my disks.

Hi Everyone,

New owner here. I am wondering if anyone has found a way around buying "Music/Audio" CD-R's for their machine?

I have learned that when every I am attempting to burn from my hard drive to a CD-R that unless I use Cd's specifically labeled "audio" or "music" I get an error code saying "not audio."

The discs I have say they are CD-R Memorex and I have another stack of Verbatim blanks but neither one are working.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sham.
