Video Upconversion for the Pioneer Elite VSX-56TXi A/V Receiver

My question is, should I be able to have all video sources connected to the receiver whether it's s-video or component video run from the receiver through component video to the television?

Right now the dvd player is hooked to the receiver via component video and then component video out from the receiver to the television. I have had to hook the s-video up directly to my television from my digital cable box in order to get a picture. My digital box does not have component video.

In order to view cable TV I have to use Video 1 on my television and to view dvd's I have to use Video 2. Is there a way to view all sources through the same input? It looks like it has this function but I can't seem to figure it out.

Any help is appreciated!

The Pioneer website says it support Video Conversion so you should be able to plug things into the receiver with S-Video or Composite and the receiver will output it through Component to the TV.

Just connect the s-video from the cable box to the tv/sat input in the receiver and it will transcode that to component video and output it to your TV via the same component cable that it send the dvd players signal through. No worries, as long as you are not trying to transcode downwards it will work fine.

Yes, the 56TXi can output composite, S, and component signals through one component connection. It may be a feature you have to turn on, check the manual. (A .pdf is available on Pioneer's site if you need it). I'm not sure if its capable of displaying its own OSD through component though. I have mine set up to transcode composite to S-video, and the receiver is hooked up to the TV via S-video. My component sources are connected directly.

There is no activation required

There is no option menu item to enable video transcoding. I also know for a fact that the osd is viewable over s-video and component. I've never tried it via composite video however, I don't think I even have a signal coming out of the receiver less than s-video.

Why not call Pioneer Elite Support? - They're very good.

I agree with previous posters who think you should not have a problem with running all your video through the receiver to the TV via the component out.

I have a Pioneer VSX-72TXVi and am running all video - cable STB(component), DVD (component), VCR(composite) through the receiver to an HDTV via the HDMI output. Since the 56 is at least comparable (actually better in some ways) to the 72 (except no HDMI) I would assume you can do the same thing but output everything via component video instead of HDMI.

When setting up my unit I called Pioneer Elite support and couple of times and found them to be VERY helpful. ;) I recommend calling them to solve your problem most easily. 1-800-421-1404

It should just work!

there is no option for video transcoding in the menus However make sure that the other component video is not assigned to TV/SAT (doing so will not allow for the transcoding to work) Good Luck
