Would having a 2ch tube preamp negate itself when using it with an SS amp?

Haoleb Audioholic Field Marshall Jan 21, 2008 #2 No. Infact Tube preamp and SS amplification is usually a very good combination.
2 2string Junior Audioholic Jan 21, 2008 #3 Some of the best intergraded are tube pre and ss amp. You can have a lot fun tube rolling!

Well I just got a used TT (Rega Planar 2 w/ RB250 arm and Audio Technica Series V cart) and some used Epos ELS-3 speakers and now I just need some proper amplification. I will be saving up some money so I can get a nice one so I won't get the upgrade bug as I will probably be keeping the 2ch setup intact for a long while. Wife says if I wait around 6 months in the summer I can splurge on a $1200 preamp and amp. So I was thinking that with that much I could go for some nice separates. I was recommend an audio source amp at audiokarma which is made by carver and it's around $300 but I don't know of anything about tube stuff and what's good so want to get a start on some research. This is the amp: http://cgi.ebay.com/AudioSource-2-CH-Class-T-Digital-Stereo-Power-Amplifier_W0QQitemZ130190661214QQihZ003QQcategoryZ39783QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem

On another note though, I think the Bottlehead Foreplay represents an excellent value for the money. It comes as a kit so you have to build it yourself but thats part of the fun and satisfaction. The instructions are easy to follow and there are plenty of experienced builders that participate on their forums if you get stuck. I have owned the foreplay II and I felt it was very good and reliable preamp. From what I understand the version III is quite a bit better too. http://www.bottlehead.com/et/adobespc/foreplay3/foreplay3.htm

As far as soldering is concerned, I am absolutely crappy at it. Have always tried to get good at it but it's just not my forte.
