Hello,

This should be pretty easy to set up. You'll need to connect your sub to the LFE output on the AVR with an RCA cable.

Then run rca from your AVR preouts to the corresponding inputs on the amp. From there hook your speakers up to the amp just like it was an AVR.

The AVR runs the show. The sub and amp just wait to be told what to do.

Is your in-wall Klipsch sub a passive sub that works with your power amp? Or does it work off a pre-out from the Yamaha AVR? Always include specific model numbers of all gear, it often helps. Can't think of anything remotely current from Klipsch in terms of a passive sub so I tend to agree with sven's post. You will need to calibrate the avr/amp/sub, YPAO can do that for you or you can do it manually with other gear.

It's old so I wasn't sure which model it was, its a passive sub it does not have a preout

Ok, will go without specifics on the sub (I suppose it being in-wall makes it hard to see what model it is now that I think about it :) ). How old is the Yamaha AVR? What model is it?

Have you looked at the connection guidelines in the Klipsch amp's manual? http://images.klipsch.com/RSA500Manual_635042116586960000.pdf
So if I understand I run an RCA from the LFE (amp) to one of the pre-outs on the AVR and then wire the sub normally to the speaker-in connectors on the amp

So the speaker outputs on the amp are label L/R, it doesnt matter which one?
Not with a mono signal (output from the avr is mono). The L/R options are there for older 2ch gear without bass management as your avr has.
