Question about speaker/sub upgrade?

Recently I updated my Amp from a Sony STR-DE695 to the Denon AVR-591, after doing this I've taken a long hard look or listen rather to the weakness in my system.

Currently I'm using an Infinity SUB750 as the sub, 2x Technics SB-LV80 for the fronts, Infinity TSS750 Centre and surrounds.
I was using the TSS750's as the main L & R but they were entirely too weak when compared to the Technics.

The sound system is in a small living room dedicated as a "Media" room.

I am currently looking to upgrade the speakers, as I'm on a tight budget, it will have to be piece by piece, and my first consideration as mentioned above is the subwoofer.

Given the current setup, how much of an upgrade would the Boston Acoustics CSSUB10 be over the dated SUB750 from Infinity?

I am aware of how terrible the TSS750's are, financially I could do likely ~500 for the sub, but that's pushing it, if they BA CSSUB10 is that big of an upgrade the $299 price range is a much better fit.

What would my best upgrade path be to pull this system into something decent? If not sub first what order should I update? If I still go with the sub first, what next?

Sorry for the long post, hopefully someone won't mind helping me.

Thanks.

Welcome to AH. I would have to say that in my opinion I would go for fronts first then a sub. What is your budget on speakers if you were to go that route? Also I would use the sub you have for now and build off that. You could get 3 front stage speakers to start, but it would be great to know how much you want to spend.

If I were to have to get them tomorrow, the budget would be at most ~500CAD, that's why I was looking at the sub as the first upgrade. I could put ~400 a month into the system for the next 3 months.

The system will mostly be used for movies with some 5.1 audio and FLACs, right now if I play music on the system, the bass sounds.... well, almost not there, it's missing something, or rather it's quite flat. I've been through all of the settings, trust me, it's leaps and bounds over what it was when I first started.

With $500 to spend on subs I would go with a couple of 12" Daytons from Parts Express or one HSU or SVS jobs in that price range. That BA deal doesn't look very promising at all.

When you do get around to speakers which I too would do first as Jamie mentioned, the Infinity Primus P362's could be had for under that budget. Maybe (4) Behringer 2030P's and one Dayton sub? The search feature can be used to further research the mentioned items. They've been discussed numerous times.

Welcome and feel free to ask Jamie anything.
He knows everything. :)

EDIT: Oh, Canada. Best buy has the Infinities but for subs ... I don't know. Some other happy Canadian should be along shortly though.

Be very careful. 4 or 5 years ago I got on here and asked a question and my max budget was 1k.

I started with picture number 1 and it ended up as picture number 2 AND 3.

RUN!!!!!

I could pickup a Velodyne DPS-10, older sub, but I could pick it up for $100.
Thoughts?

Yep its easy to fall into the same route as PDawg ,especially if you have a better half who lets you buy stuff for your audio addiction :D:D:D

I'd drop a C note on a Velo in a heartbeat. That's gotta be used. Go look and listen and buy.

Still have yet to run away, so after looking a bit this morning, how do you guys feel about the Polk CS2 Series II as the center channel?
And adding 2x Polk Monitor 60 Series II to the front L/R?
I would also drop my current sub, the Infinity SUB750 in favor of the Velodyne DPS-10.
Financially this would be doable, and might solve my issues.

Thoughts? Advice?

I can get the CS2 Series II center for 129$ CAD, and the Monitor 60's for 129/EA as well, I think that's pretty good value for the money and I'd have a matching front sound.

Thanks, Matt

After looking at my TV stand I might be forced to go with the CS1 over the CS2 for the center due to space, however, if the CS2 is really leaps and bounds above the CS1 I could likely make it fit.

Also given that either are much better than the current TSS setup.

I guess the other concern, my AVR-591 is small in size, is it strong enough to power the CS2's?

Update, managed to pickup a set today, got a set of Polk Monitor 70's for the front, a Polk CS1 center, and 2 Polk Monitor 30's for the surrounds. Only paid 500$ for the set, they are one hell of an upgrade over the ones that I had, I'll keep you posted on a sub.
