Question about LCD and compression

I just purchased a Samsung LN40A550 and just love it! My Oppo upconvert player looks fantastic. I do however have a problem with D*, I think. I've hooked my Oppo to both HDMI inputs and the problem isn't there. It's only with my D* receiver, H21. I've hooked up an old bat wing and my OTA locals don't do it either.

It happens mostly with blues and greens where there are patches of red pixels but it's never in the same place. his only happens with D* and just has me wondering if this is common with Sat. compression and LCDs? I'm just concerned and want to trouble shoot this before my 30 day return is up, just in case something is wrong with the set.

Geez, seems I can't post a link to the image and yet I can't upload the image either??? I understand about spammers but I need help with this issue. I've been here since 2005 but I only have to 2 posts so please go easy on me for the work around.

If it's always red pixels that would be weird and I don't have a good answer but the way the problem was described it really just sounds like the bitrate is too low and that is typical pixelation.

You're talking about satellite and the potential for momentary interruptions in the stream is far greater than cable. Excessive compression will cause artifacts like jaggies (false contouring) or a 'soft' image but not pixelation.

Thanks for the quick reply. I tried just about everything, even swapped HDMI cables but I just tried hooking back up with component cables and the picture is fine. So it looks like I have a bad HDMI port on the H21

It could very well be an HDMI problem but digital is more susceptible to that kind of problem than analog. Despite the oft repeated notion that digital is 'all or nothing' it isn't exactly true. The bits have to arrive in a timely fashion and if they don't (for whatever reason) you can get that pixelation effect. I see it every once in awhile with cable where the image pauses and smears and then suddenly catches up and is back to normal.
