Hi All,

Why the Integrated Amplifier do not have Optical Input.
I plan to buy a Marantz Integrated Amplifier but discover there is just a L/R channel input.

My dvd player have optical output, if i want to connect the DVD to the Amplifier, then only way is using the L&R channel. Will it affect the sound quality by then?

The reason is because An integrated amplifier is simply a analog preamplifier and power amplifier into one chassis. If you want digital inputs you will need a reciever.

You will not really loose any performance using the analog outputs of your cd player if you have something reasonably decent.

If you want an integrated amplifier and still dont think the analog outputs of your cd player are good enough you could get an external DAC which is a digital to analog converter.

Also, You cannot get surround sound with an integrated amplifier. You need a surround reciever for that. either 5.1 or 7.1

Your DVD already have an on board D/A converter, which will convert the digital signal to analog signal. This eliminates the reason to have a optical input for you integrated amplifier.

Probably won't affect your sound quality, assuming the DVD player isn't a generic (cheap) DVD player.
