Why or why not is subjective to the eye watching it.
ISF calibration will get it as close to perfect as it could be. Blacks and whites arent being shown a true as they should be according to the grey scale. Colors, specially reds are driven very high or sometimes scenes are not perfectly centered.

Mine isnt perfect, but its got me more than happy and I've dealt with the idea of having it ISF calibrated. If it wasnt such a high cost, I'd might, but at $300+ a whack depending on how many inputs they do, not now.

Its a waste of money for the home users whom cant access the service menu's.
Its basic eye calibration for one, also you'll find that what its suppose to show, your TV cannot by the way it was setup originally. Havent seen a TV yet show the black- white bars totally 100%, usually one bar wont show and you cant get that to show with limited adjustments.
What you get by the standard menu adjustments are basic fine tuning t best. Drive colors a bit brighter, duller, sharpness and tint. Home shopping channels offer some good screen shots for eye adjusting as good as those disc.
Sound and video on those discs done by eye/ear subjects the adjusting to individual tastes, lack of hearing, could be your part color blind etc. Not that thats a bad thing, but you'll never get it true. And go buy the radio shack meter for sound and other things for the color spectrum and the grey scale and you've spent enough to have it professionally calibrated.

If I could get 2 inputs done and a quickie sound setting for under $200, I'd probably would. But from what Ive searched around for locally, some sets they dont know so they wont attempt it, or the average price for what I want exceeded $350!!!! Nope, thats a 1/3rd of the TV cost and its is passable as is by all means to me doing it by eye and ear!!!
