Question about adding a second sub

I want to add a second sub to my home theater set up in my living room. My living room is a moderate size(20 X 18 X 10) but it is also open to the kitchen and the breakfast area. The only thing that separates them is a half wall bar/counter. The kitchen and breakfast area measure(25 X 12 X 10) thus giving me a total of 6,600 cu/ft to fill with sound.

According to those dimensions, I need like 2-monster size subs. Unfortuantely, that isn't in my budget. I currently have one SVS PB-12 in the living room. Now, I just want to do the best that I can to help that poor little subwoofer out so I want to add another sub. My budget is limited to my fantasy football winnings of this past season($500). Here are the options I was considering:

1) Get a PB10-NSD is $491 shipped. It's smaller than my PB12, but in my budget.

2) Get a VTF-2 MK 3 in satin black is $553 shipped. I would prolly need spousal approval to fork over the extra $53 bucks over my budget but it's highly possible. It's bigger than the PB10 and would, I assume, work better than the PB 10????? But I'm not sure.

3) Other sub recommendations that I can attain at this price?

I know saving more & buying better is what alot of people suggest, but there's just no way my wife would ever approve buying a really expensive sub. I fought hard just to get my PB12. The only reason I got that was b/c my then 2-yr. old daughter fried my previous one. Adding another PB12 would be nice, but she definitely wouldn't go for $150+ over my budget. I could wait till next year & hope I win enough money to buy another PB12, but I can't garauntee another championship plus I don't want to wait that long. So, now that you know my situation, any opinions for which might work better considering my room dimensions/ suggestions/ comments are all appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I would do whatever I can to make sure that the two subs are identical in model. You probably didn't want to hear that, but I think the chances of integrating dual are bettered.

Keep your eyes peeled on the b-stock listings? classifieds?

How old is your PB-12? And is it the NSD or the Plus version?

Have you considered an SVS cylinder sub? They are supposed to be acoustically very similar to their box counterparts. Assuming that yours is an NSD, SVS has some PC12-NSDs on b-stock right now (a great suggestion by jostenmeat) for $40 off. Those cylinders are cheaper to ship, too, because they are lighter. The driver in those may be an update from what you have, though.

Look at ebay, craigslist or audiogon for a used paradigm ps 1200 or pw 2200 or one of the newer models. You can't go wrong as you will pay about half retail

I got my PB-12 in 2005 so it's pre-NSD. I know there's alot of good used stuff out there, but I just prefer buying new. I could be rembering incorrectly here, but do you think the difference between the PB10-NSD driver or even the VTF-2 MK3 would sound noticbly different than my old PB12? I'm guessing the PB10 would be closer to my PB12 than the VTF2, but I don't know. I like the VTF2 b/c I think it would do better in a larger area than the PB10, but again, I'm not sure if that's necessarily true or not.

That used Ultra from Annunaki is nice, but still way over my price range unfortuantely.

I think I would feel better buying b-stock stuff b/c at least it's coming from the manufacturer so, that is something I think I"ll be on the lookout for. Thanks for the idea.

I'd recommend contacting SVS and asking them which of their subs would match the best with your current sub. They should know their products better than anyone else. I've had great success with e-mailing them.
