I have a bose system in my den which I got about 7 years ago. Im going to upgrade my den equipment. And I want to move bose to the bedroom. Now my question is? the Bose amp is bad but the the speaker are good and I like the cubes size for the bedroom. What kind of amp with built in dvd player can I get to use with the bose speakers?

....but the the speaker are good...
I beg to differ... :p

Most here would say the bose aren't any good, but since you already have them.... You can hook up the speakers to any AVR in most cases.

Can you post up what model you have? I assume it has the bass module...

Actually Bose is horrible but that's been touted more times than I can mention. As far another amp, Bose cube speakers were not designed to be used with any amp other than the Bose. The speakers most of the time run at about 2 ohms, and that will seriously damage and even destroy regular recievers, which were designed to handle 6-16ohm speakers.

I would ebay the speakers and use the money towards something else. My own mother tried to give me a Bose Acoustimass 15 system for free, I told her to give it to my brother....I hate my brother.

First off, are the speakers currently hooked up to the Bose Amp using proprietary connections? I know new Bose systems do that. If that is the case you may be out of luck all together. You might also want to check out the speaker specifications/limitations (in terms of wattage and impedance) before you hook them up to a new system and blast off.

If all of the above questions are satisfied you are better off to buy a separate AVR and cheap DVD player. I assume you want to reserve the better part of your budget for upgrading the equipment in your living room--> therefore why not get a moderately priced Yamaha, Onkyo or Pioneer AVR & a Sony DVD Upconversion player from Best Buy?

Thats not an absolute though... It depends on what they are... Some bose speakers can be used with an AVR. I know several people using this setup...

Nobody really addressed your question - can the Bose cubes be used in your bedroom with a different receiver. How about posting the Bose model you have - with a link to the owners manual if you have one?

Too often we see posts with questions about Bose that rapidly turn into rants about how bad they are - the OP generally tiptoes off never to be heard again. I agree they are overpriced for what you get - but lets at least try to help out someone who is 'stuck' with them - eh?

I suspect that this may have already happened.

My brother has a Bose Acoustimass system hooked up to a Sony stereo receiver and it functions. The key to remember is never hook the cubes up directly to the receiver or they will likely blow out. They have limited sound range and they have to be connected through the bass module, which has circuitry to protect the small cubes. As far as I can tell the bass module can be driven by a regular receiver, as long as you don't overpower the bass module and blow out the bass module.

If, in fact, your original Bose system consisted of a Bose DVD player/receiver combo and those speakers, odds are there was custom circuitry in the receiver to manage the Bose speakers. ...not to mention proprietary speaker connections.

Once you go through whatever you need to make the speakers work with other electronics (and even then there's no guarantee), you're better off simply replacing the speakers as well.

Sell 'em on Ebay. There's one born every minute.
