does anyone know how much of a difference in sound it is, if you use the 7.1 analogue/audio outputs to the receiver? i heard that you will still get dolby true hd and dts master this hook up.
i know it will not be as good as a hdmi 1.3 cable but it should be close. how close though? you can save alot of money by using your old existing receiver that doesnt have dolby true hd or dts master.
thanks your feedback is appreciated

Depending on the components used it could be better than HDMI 1.3
I'd rather use analogs with a 2005 Rotel system than HDMI 1.3 with an Onkyo 605 receiver, even though I think it's an excellent entry level receiver.

You need to make sure of two things
1) The player actually has 7.1 analog outputs
2) The player decodes TrueHD and dts-MA

The Panasonic DMP-BD55 suits that bill.

For the most part, I don't think it matters very much how you get the TrueHD/DTS-MA - bitstream (HDMI) or Analog output.

However, the sound level output (dB) may not be equal. In some cases, the bitstream may sound louder than the analog output.

I think as long as the sound levels are matched, you won't hear any difference between bitstream (HDMI) vs Analog.

thanks so kindly guys for the feedback.
im using an onkyo tx-nr900 receiver but purely as a processor with jbl synthesis amps.
do you think that my current receiver connected to blu ray 7.1 audio out will do atleast the same or better as for example a hdmi 1.3 from blu ray to an entry level onkyo 605?
thanks
