OK...I'll post another movie that's counterpoint to FX and superheros, just in case a break is needed in the busy summer movie sequence. This time it's Queen to Play, which has been out for a while, but in France, not here. A doudy, Corsican housewife/hotel room maid also does housework for a reclusive, rich American (Kevin Kline, doing his role in French), and finds herself drawn to his antique chess set. Knowing nothing about chess, she starts to learn from Kline's character, and turns out to be a "natural". She enters a tournament and things start to change for her and her family.

This fairly light-hearted "dramedy" is in French with subtitles, is low key, enjoyable and doesn't even bother to insult Americans. It's recommended if you need to back off from summer movies and let your ears rest for a while.
