I like The Game (especially the DVD-A if you can find it). A Night At The Opera is also a good one.

Are you talking good SQ or music in general?

For SQ: I have all of their early CDs up to The Game, And the last two They're all good. Even the remastered versions.

Musically speaking Queen II is my favorite. Night at the Opera is overall my least favorite. If I never hear Bohemian Rhapsody again; I'll be OK.

I also have both The Game and ' Opera on DVD-A. IMO they're both a bit over done on the mixing. To much movement across the channels.

Yes, but that movement can sound great with a nice receiver and set of matching speakers. Unfortunately, too many early DVD-A's tried to be gimmicky by using the surrounds too aggresively and it turns off alot of folks. I am a huge fan of multichannel music and hope that blu-ray can somehow save the day. Just listen to the Dave Mathews/Tim Reynolds Blu-ray and you will NOT notice the surrounds because they are used for accoustic purposes and not for the "a-ha" factor. LONG LIVE MULTICHANNEL AUDIO!!! LET'S REVIVE "THE MOVEMENT!!!"

Day at the Races is real nice for those that don't care for Night at the Opera. The first three are all awesome: Queen, Queen II and Sheer Heart Attack.

I might start with Sheer Heart Attack as a great place to start.

But then, the Greatest Hits I and II DVD-As were all remastered to full 5.1 DTS Surround. THose can really fill up a room. All of your favorite Queen tunes in full Surround. There's also a Night/Opera DVD-A 5.1 that's great.

I personally prefer this style of surround mixing to some of the more subtle center-oriented mixes that rather leak peripherals into the rear channels.

Highly recommended.

I was always impressed with the sound of the Queen remasters. Not too hot not too cold. Ironic considering how over the top this group was. It seems that they got it just right, at least on my systems. Other engineers could learn a thing or 2 from this.
