G'day all
I saw this the other day...

http://www.electronichouse.com/article/qsonix_unveils_beefed-up_q2_series_servers/
Claiming this to be high end music servers incorporating famous qsonic technology married with hi-end wadia digital technology.... funny thing is that the Q205 music server really only has digital out and needs a well performing dac in order to get anything that you can listen to.
I believe pricing is in the order of $6k and up depending on config. fully spec'ed I think it goes into five figures....
So how can this do anything you cannot readily do with a simple PC with Ubuntu and Amorok and a well spec'ed sound card with s/pdif output; needless to say that a PC in a nice cabinet may be just as good looking.... probably just as user friendly too....
The Q205 has supposedly no RAID options or nothing to cater for redundancy.... wonder how about backup....? support for file sharing?
Any opinions out there?
Am I missing something here?
