Puzzled about Parametric EQ

Hi guys,
This is a real newbie question, so please bear with me. I'd really appreciate it if you could enlighten me.

Okay, so I did an auto setup with my RXV3800. Checking the PEQ for each speaker, I see that it's far from flat. Do I accept these settings or do I edit to flatten them (to bring it to a straight horizontal line).

My understanding is that the setting which the RXV3800 did is to flatten the frequency response in my listening environment, so I should not touch it but accept it as it is. What do I do?

How does it sound to you? Are you happy with the sound? Thats the real question. Can you switch between eq'd and flat? I would see how your setup sounds both ways and then decide.

Jamie2112 is right. If it sounds good to you then that's the way you should keep it. The graph you're seeing is not the measured response but rather the corrections made by the auto EQ system. For example, if one of your speakers is in a corner it is likely that certain bass frequencies have been reduced to compensate for the exaggeration created by corner loading.

An easy way to compare EQ and no EQ is to save the setup as you have it now with the EQ applied to system memory slot 1 (found in the receiver menu). Next, turn off the EQ for each speaker (Sound > Parametric EQ) by choosing "Reset". Now save that state in the number 2 system memory slot. Once that is done you can easily switch between EQ and flat by pressing the 9 or 0 key on the remote with the side switch in the "AMP" position.
