Pushing my receiver too hard i think?

k well i finally got my speakers today, hooked up the 3 fronts and my sub, and then i hooked up my laptop to the receiver with the headphone jack style plug which runs into the receiver with 2 RCA style inputs

with the volume on the laptop full out, to get the speakers even close to loud i had to turn it all the way up to like 4-6db

im asuming this is bad? lol

It's not necessarily bad. It's because the level from the headphone jack is far below normal line-level of ~1 Volt RMS.

edit, i'm just an idiot

i didnt realize it was ok to go into the posative DB's from the negative :S

or even that there WERE posative #'s LOL

i was sketchin out bad at -3 lol
