pushing a 250 watt rating on speaker

I am wondering if my speaker, that is rated at 250 watts, be damaged when pushed to the limits? I am running it with a 300 watt per channel Mcintosh MC 302. At peak intervals when listening to music, when the amp is on "hold", it'll reach 300 watts on the meter for split second notes. Is this okay? The sound is not distorted at all. I am assuming it is fine but would just like some opinions from some more experienced and knowledgeable folk.

That is the MAX rating at which something fries for the speaker rating. Basically, a useless spec. The amp may indicate it is producing 300W for a second but the speaker is not subjected to it for long enough to matter. So no, it is not something to worry about.

If your speakers are rated for 250 watts continuous program that's one thing, peak is another.
