Purple Screen with Samsung DVD Player

I purchased a Samsung HD850 with an optoma Hd72 and when i hook the dvd player up with hdmi to the projector I get the picture but it has a purple haze over it so I have been forced to use component video which only outputs in 480P and I would really like to have 720P.

Any thoughts on how to fix this

Thank you in advance for your input

1. Did you hook the DVD up via analog video and do a check to see if it is factory HDMI out of the box? Some aren't and require you to activate the HDMI port before hooking it up. You can do this through the players set up menu.

2. How long is your HDMI cable? Many DVD players and cable boxes do not output a very strong signal through the HDMI port and thus you might get a funky picture when using a long cable (7 - 10 Meters or bigger). Quality of cable can really come into play when going over 5 meters. I recomend Impact Acoustics HDMI and DVI cables. They are top shelf and have never ever been a problem. Green sparkles or other artifacts and issues seem to pop up when the cable is too long so a purple screen might not be out of the question.

I've got the same projector and have occasionally had the same issue. In my case, it has to do with a loose HDMI cable. I've got a not-that-expensive 25' cable from my receiver to the projector. For some reason, the receiver end tends to come loose (probably because it's not yet in a cabinet and I keep moving stuff around it). If the connector is even slightly misaligned, I get a colored haze. Purple is the most common, but I've also had yellow. If it gets really misaligned, I either get pixellated static or no signal. To fix it, I just unplug the cable and plug it back in (at the receiver), making sure it's snug as can be. I've been thinking of ways to make it a little tighter (aside from buying and re-running a new cable!), but have so far come up empty.

Cheers,

Kevin
