I prefer the feature set of the Denon but I still just have a normal 7ch setup, too (even tho my Denon 4520 has 9ch of amp and is capable of 11.1 processing), altho I did use a 9ch setup for a bit before going back. Really about what features appeal to you and your current/future uses at the best price you can get. I bought my 4520 for a coupla reasons, but particularly to try Audyssey XT32 with the separate level/delay for two subs (which the 3400 also has). I upgraded from an Onkyo (with Audyssey XT) that's still in use in my bedroom (and have another Denon 3808 I bought used from a fellow AH member out in the workshop). If Onkyo had retained Audyssey I might have gotten another one if the price were right, but at least it seems some of the features of Pioneer's MCACC have been brought over to improve on the AccuEQ thing Onkyo went to after Audyssey. I wasn't too thrilled with all the hdmi/network board failures my generation of Onkyo had but Onkyo did step up and extend warranty for that issue and put it behind them (and mine did eventually succumb to the problem and Onkyo was great to deal with for the repair).
