Hi guys,

I am hoping you could help me out. I have a new Yamaha RX-V473 to replace y aging Sony Receiver which was limited to just 2 HDMI inputs (pass-through) only. I wanted a unit that was able to decode the audio and send it out to the speakers without having to use optical audio cables.

Anyway, I got my Blu-ray unit working, I got my Mac unit working with both video and audio, however, my Motorola DSR-505 Satellite Video does not work. I do not get any video through to the TV.

I do have it hooked up to HDMI-2 from the DVR which utilizes a DVI to HDMI cable.

I do realize now I will have to have a separate audio cable hookup, but still....thoughts on the why I do not get video?

Your Motorola box is not HDCP code compliant and you need to exchange it for one that is. This is a big problem still with satellite and cable boxes.

You should not need a separate audio cable. HDMI passes video and audio.

Your box will work direct to your TV, but not through the receiver due to the repeater architecture being out of compliance.

I guess I will upgrade the Satellite box tomorrow evening. Will stop by Bestbuy or something because my DSR505 is old and they have a new DSR605 I think, or DSR600 which should work and has a direct HDMI connection which will work with what I need. Now I will have two DSR505 boxes that will be sitting and collecting dust.

I figured it was something to do with some compliancy issue with HDCP. My old Sony Receiver passed the signal along without an issue, but it was pass-through only.

The DSR505 was DVI to HDMI, hence, why I needed a separate audio hook. With the new setup, I will not need that at all.

Thanks for the heads up.
