Purchase timing

Hello all,
Just wanted to get some thoughts on when you think is best time to buy. For instance currently best buy has Martin Logan speakers on sale for 25% off but Memorial day is just a month away and not sure when they have sales. I will be purchasing over time to try to get deals to make my budget go the farthest and not sure if I should jump on the 25% off or wait to see what they have for possible Memorial day sale since the receivers are not on sale currently and will be buying that at a later date.

I'm just guessing, with less folks buying electronic things these days due to Wuhan Chinese virus, I'd imagine there is a lot of excess inventory so soon we could see some sales and good deals.

We aren't in a normal situation, far from it so I am going to be a pessimist and call that economy hasn't reached its bottom just yet, thus deeper sales are still ahead of us. Check sales again in two months.

It doesn't hurt to scour Craigslist every once in a while. I wouldn't recommend electronics but I've stumbled across some very nice deals on speakers in my area. My latest score netted me a pair of pristine condition Sierra 2s at $850 less than they retail for!

Every day I see opportunities to score on Craigs List, Neighborhood, Facebook Marketplace, and even Good Will. You just have to be ready to move fast and have cash ready that you can spend. I just watched some things pass by today because cash got a little low this week. Last month I bought a nice Thorens 160 for a fair price. But it blew my budget. Then I missed out on a couple of amps that were very good deals. Oh well. Good luck.

I'd say if you want them now and they are having a sale, go get them. Otherwise you'll be playing the "wait for sale" game all year, every year. Best Buy, specifically Magnolia has random sales throughout the year. If you are going to purchase at a Magnolia, just chat up one of the supervisors or managers, they can sometimes get even more discounts and sales on certain products that they don't advertise. Those guys will be begging for sales since the stores have been closed, so I think you'd have the upper hand if you wanted a nice pair of speakers.

I do my research, I know what I want (may even have a list of a few items that will do what I need), and I know what I am willing to pay.

Ain't that the truth! It's difficult when you shop with the "have an idea" mentality without proper research. I have always been an impulse buyer, but have slowed way down over the years. When it comes to this hobby I don't think there really is such a thing as an urgent purchase that isn't a manufactured reason to jump on the first "okay" deal you see. It really does benefit to do your homework first and be patient. Take your time and look at everything.

I just had someone offer me a Sansui 9090 for $500 blind. I don't have the money today, but I am gonna try and get more information. Maybe buy it next week if the price is ok. You never know. Now I gotta research this model lol.

This is great info. Thanks for the advice. I am going to see what happens over the next month and see what I can put together. I have a good idea of what I want just trying not to pay full price .
I'm setting up a 5.2 and will be getting the Martin Logan 60XT or XTI's for the mains and matching 50 for the center. Haven't made up my mind on the subs (possibly a pair of SVS SB-3000). Best deal I can find on a good Denon AVR (currently looking at the 3600h or better) and looking at a few amps including a Emotiva 5 channel.

Definitely wait for sales if you can.

I planned my HT setup months ago and kept daily track on every item. Bought them as I found good individual sales. Saved about 1500 on speakers (5.2.4) and receiver MSRP, allowing me to basically stretch my budget to a higher tier of components than originally planned. Very glad I did it that way.
