I did a search

Hi Penny

I found some interestesting stuff about Brooklyn camera salesmen. However, I am not sure if there is anything that I need to worry about. I mean, these are probably gray market, and even perhaps demos. But if they are in perfect condition, I don't mind for the price. The one speaker was damaged, but I incurred no cost (so far) to get it replaced (providing the one being sent Monday is OK). So if there is something shady going on, I am not sure what it is. Unless they get reimbursed for the UPS claim somehow.

So far I am just out $585 + $70 shipping. Shipping seems about right since they are 49 lbs apiece. Still way cheaper than I can find anywhere else. Thay had all the manuals and accessories with them.

Like I said, the only negative so far is slow response.

Yes, these guys sell gray market stuff, don't expect good quality.

I am not a UPS fan, actually I don't like their customer service practices, but in this case this is not UPS' fault. They were poorly packed, a good seller would have replaced the styrofoam or repackaged prior to shipping.

The serial number is "erased", so the speakers cannot be tracked down. They could be from a going out of business sale/lot, or even a stolen lot that they didn't steal, but be sure they didn't ask their supplier where they were coming from either. As you probably know, rarely you can tell were gray market merchandise comes from.

In the future, stay away from AV Depot, was the savings worth all this hassle????

Finally complete

I received my new speaker today, at first I was a little bummed out, because the tweeter did not work. After quickley popping out the tweeter I found the negative speaker connector had come loose ( a little suprised they were not soldered) All is good now, I have both speakers and they look and sound great. And even those there was some hassle involved, and these are most likely gray market. I still don't regret the transaction. The total cost to me was $660 including shipping. I figure I saved about $200-$250. The damaged speaker could have happened from any retailer that ships it to you, and the loose wire could have happened in shipping. So I can't really blame AVdepot for this. BTW the replacement speaker was packaged much better.

Was all this hassle worth it? Just to save $200?

And if there are things wrong with your replacement speaker on the outside, have you checked what might be wrong with your speaker on the inside?

Especially when you can get a complete pair of A-Stock brand new PSB T55's for $629.00/pr. from a well known and reliable dealer like www.saturdayaudio.com. I got my complete set of black PSB T45/C40/B15 (upgraded to B25 for free) for $1,049.00, plus $190.00 air shipping to Puerto Rico.

They upgraded to B25, because they ran out of stock of black B15's, and would have taken 4-5 days for them to get them in. Seriously doubt any other retailer or gray market store would have offered an upgrade for only a 4-5 days backorder.

That's why I always prefer to buy from big established retailers (online or B&M). You always know what you are getting, and if that means you have to pay just a little more, the extra cost is worth the peace of mind.

Taking in consideration he had to return one speaker, I'm pretty sure he ended up maybe saving $50.00 from what would have cost to buy from SA. And if you take the time spent tracking, calling, and messaging, I'm 100% sure he spent more than buying from an established retailer like SA or DMC.
