Just ordered PSB Image series; T65 Towers, C60 center, SR50 sourrounds and subsonic 8 sub. Anyone have an experience using banana cables with these -- I was thinking of buying Cobalt's cables with locking bananas. Or will bare wire work the same or better? thanks

I would prefer bananas, but you needn't spend all that money on Cobalt cables unless you feel like paying for the pretty looks. As long as you use a sufficient guage cable, it will perform the same. You can get inexpensive banana plugs from Impact Acoustics, Parts Express, or nice locking bananas from Have Inc.

Sounds like a great setup. Let us know how it performs.

What are your impressions of the PSBs?

A/V;
I am currently looking at upgrading my speakers and I've been doing a bit of research on the PSB Image T65s. So far I have seen mostly favorable feedback.

I haven't seen much on these from personal owners (only "professional" reviews), so I am curious to your take on these to this point. If you have a minute, let us know. Thks in advance... -TD

Err, how the heck do those things work? Don't you need a crimping tool or something? :confused:

No not at all.... There are 2 set screws one for the bare wire, one for sheathed wire for cable retention.
They work very well. The back end screw in adapter is for looks, a bit.
Basically the rear opening on these type of bananas is big enough for a 8awg wire.
The adapter makes for a much nicer look when used with 10 or 12awg wire.
I have used others that did not have the adapter.
And they look like someone that is wearing a shoe that is 3 times the size they are supposed to wear.
Great build quality on these.....;)

Would it be to much trouble to see a pic of how they work? ;) thanks!

I have the impact acoustics one's, which are similar only the caps are hard plastic not metal. I had a problem at first as well:D They are not that intuitive, at least not for me.

First, you need to screw off the cover. I think that it's counter clockwise. Then loosen both set screws on the side. Then insert the bare wire. First tighten the closest screw to the rest of the wire, then the farthest. Then screw down the cover.

Hope this helps,

Pat

I own PSB Image T45s, older Image 8C Center channel, Image 1B surrounds, Subsonic5 subwoofer;

Here are my reviews on the T45s and 8C center channel respectively;

Excellent review, thanks for your input on the 45s. They have a similar build, seem as though they may be just a bit smaller in the soundstage dept. (possible compression you experienced?) due to the size of the enclosure and drivers when compared to the T55s and lack of additional drivers in comparison to the T65s, but do sound as though they may be a good value.

I am currently running (mostly) an Infinity Interlude setup (IL50 LR, IL36C, IL10 SRB & OWS SS) which with my other components sounds pretty respectable. Considering I was able to get all 7 for less than $1,100.00 (some of it used), it's a nice setup for the money.

Nevertheless, I've been exploring new speaker options as I believe I'm not quite satisfied from a musicality standpoint (although movies sound very good with this setup) and would like to see what else is out there in a slightly more expensive arena or even same price range. The PSBs look similar in build, but I believe may be a bit better in performance, but I haven't had the opportunity to listen to them as of yet. I've considered evaluating the larger Ascends as well, but again, have not had the opportunity to this point.

Thanks again for your feedback on this, sorry if I hijacked this thread a bit.. :p -TD

I think its my cheapy Technics receiver that is the problem. My old Techics towers compressed too at loud volume levels. The compression started in excess of 88 db which is more than loud enough for me
