Really? What were you driving them with? I think my Image towers have quite a bit of kick when you crank them up, you really need a good amp behind them to make them shine though IMO.
I auditioned these speakers just a few days back. I tried with the following two amps... Denon 1911, NAD 747. In this post I was wondering what you guys would think of pairing the two with the T6. When I auditioned I had him switch back to the Denon in 15 mins. I felt the denon sounded much better. It responded well with small increases in volume, didnt feel that was the case with the NAD. And if I remember it right I liked the bass better with the denon.
I might be wrong though, this is my search for my first system. :)

IMO neither one of those has enough juice to do any of the Image towers justice, especially the T6's which will require a lot of power.

I'm not sure why you are looking at surround sound receivers? There are always big compromises with surround receivers especially at this price level, first thing they usually skimp on is power and transformer capacity. The WPC rating that these receivers are given are usually far lower in the real world, FAR lower. Are you planning on doing surround sound or 2 channel only?

I think either way your best bet is a dedicated amp right from the get go.

Compromise depends on how loud you want to play them and the room size they are in. There are no black and white answers here and everything needs to be looked at as a whole before making a sound recommendation. Like I said, my T45s can be driven full range into insane loudness levels with my RX-V1800 without the receiver showing any hint of strain.

From the review done my HT Magazine below, it would appear that these speakers do present themselves as more than average load despite their mid high sensitivity. I'm concerned with the phase angle of almost 60 degrees at a bass like 70 Hz. However the test fails to indicate what the impedance is at 70 Hz. How big is the room and how far are you going to be sitting from them?

The Image T6’s listening-window response (a five-point average of axial and +/–15-degree horizontal and vertical responses) measures +1.88/–1.74 decibels from 200 hertz to 10 kilohertz. The –3-dB point is at 48 Hz, and the –6-dB point is at 41 Hz. Impedance reaches a minimum of 3.92 ohms at 413 Hz and a phase angle of –59.85 degrees at 69 Hz.

Yes. I plan to use for both surround & music. With music as priority.
I am leaning towards using in 2 channel mode for movies for a while, and Intend to buy the fronts first. Center & maybe woofer next, surrounds can wait.

Room is sized 12 x 14 feet & 9-10 height.
See this, rough room drawing & where I can place it. This is my bedroom.

Compromise Power yes to some extend, sound quality prefer not to compromise. Very loud is not really a factor. So can always buy receiver with Pre Outs and add more power later if necessary.
Does a receiver mean compromise in sound quality compared to stereo amp?

I surely would love to have an amp where I can have lots of head room. I played the Denon 1911 at -10db from reference level, in a smaller room & found it pretty loud. I was sitting pretty close though. I think I would like to have a little more power than the Denon 1911.
