PS3 to receiver to crt tv issue

Greetings,

This is my first post in this forum so I hope I'm in the right section for my question.

Let me start by saying what I currently have:
- PS3 with an HDMI cable and the AV cable that's delivered with the PS3
- Onkyo TX-SR605 Receiver
- CRT tv without HDMI (for now, the 50" plasma will arrive in a couple of weeks)

My PS3 is connected to my receiver with HDMI, I programmed my HDMI IN-1 on DVD or GAME/TV (tried both) in the setup menu.

My receiver is connected to my crt tv with S-Video through the monitor out S-video output to the tv on the EXT-2 S-Video input.

I can use the crt tv to set up everything, use dvd in the past (without hdmi) and watch CBL/Sattelite; however I get no video from my PS3.

Is this simply because my HDMI input to my receiver cannot be "translated" to the S-Video output? Or is something else going on?

Another "issue" is that eventhough I get sound from PS3 to my receiver (through the HDMI) is my receiver says it's "Multich" instead of Dolby Digital (when playing a Blu-Ray or DVD), is this because my PS3 defines the sound and just sends it through Multichannels instead of letting my receiver define it?

Turn on the PS3 and press and hold the power button for 20 seconds. It will blink red. Now when you turn it on, it will re-sense your video settings.

Check in your receivers manual for how to control video output to your CRT. Some things HDMI can switch too, others it can't. There is normally a chart in the back.

First of all thanks for the reply, but unfortunately it didn't help, still no video.

When I connect the AV cable to my receiver (only the yellow one) I get video and can go to video settings and select HDMI but it just goes to a black screen and after 30 seconds it goes back to the old settings. I do have an HDMI out to go to a tv (and it is mentioned in the manual) but since my tv doesn't support HDMI I used an S-Video cable. The main reason why I'm asking this is to make sure that when I get my new tv I will only need the HDMI cables from and to my receiver without having to mess with the AV cable going from my PS3 to my receiver, so I can get Full HD support etc.

I don't know of any receiver that can down convert HDMI to anything else. If you want to hook up your PS3 to your receiver then to your tv you'll have to use composite/s-video inputs.

Once you get your new TV you'll be able to run a single HDMI cable from your PS3 to your receiver then another one to the TV, as long as your receiver supports HDMI switching and isn't just a pass through. I'll check online and get back to you.

Edit: Yeah it uses a HDMI v1.3 repeater, so you'll only need 1 hdmi cable to and from your receiver.

There are no consumer products that will convert HDMI to analog due to copy protection.
