PS3 only playing in Stereo?

I have my PS3 connected to my Marantz SR5003 via HDMI and for some reason it only plays games/DVD/Bluray in Stereo.

My XBOX and Satellite receiver are hooked up the same way and play 5.1.

I tried playing around in the PS3 settings and everything seems in order.

Any ideas?

is your marantz set to playback stereo when it's on the input used for the PS3?

Nope, it's set to auto. Switching settings does nothing, it always plays in stereo.

Which version of PS3 (slim or fat)? Do you have it set to bitstream or PCM?

On the PS3 what setting are you currently using? also check the multi-output is it on or off? do you have the HDMI setting for audio set to bitstream or LPCM? Is your PS3 a Slim or a Fat model. Sorry for all the questions but the more info we have the better we will be able to help you troubleshoot this problem
