Hey guys, I'm really confused with this. Everything used to work fine now there's some new problems.

In the PS3 home menu, surround sound works perfectly. HD picture, everything good like it once was. When I load the game Metal Gear Solid 4... the surround sound turns off. I have no idea why. This occurs when the game is loading and the TV flickers and adjusts to the right HD settings (never understood why this varied from the menu screen).

I'm using an LG Model: HT963TA system, and used to use it perfectly with only the HDMI cable (no optical). I'm thinking it's the surround sound system that is the problem because when the game loads a small Dolby Digital tag appears on the display of the device... and it never used to be there. The manual is horrible and I can't find anything about this problem.

Really hope you guys have a clue.. this seems like such a bizarre problem. Thanks guys.

The fact that you're getting a dolby digital tag just means the game's sending the audio encoded in DD, which in theory should be giving you surround sound anyways(as it's a surround codec). But if you want it to be the same as your PS3 menu, go into the game settings and switch it to 5 (or 7) channel PCM or what-have-you and see if that helps any. Also try going into the PS3 audio settings menu --> manually set --> HDMI --> turn off all of the check marks and then proceed to turn on

2(.1)ch PCM 44khz
2(.1)ch PCM 48khz
5(.1)ch PCM 44khz
5(.1)ch PCM 48khz

Thank you! It finally worked after days of searching and trying. I'd have never figured this out! You have made my day good sir, so thank you.
