I'm wonder what games for the ps3 actually have HD audio. Ive been perusing the web and have found out this
"The PS3 Will bitstream Dolby Digital & DTS, but not TrueHD or Master Audio. It will however decompress them and send to your amp as Multichannel PCM.

Ahhhh, ok yes, PCM was coming up on my amp but I didn't know what it meant. So that is a kind of fake 5.1 yes? It was weird as the "stereo" symbol came up on my amp as well, which led me to believe I wasn't getting 5.1."

I found this list but it doesnt seem to be up to date: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=173734

so does this mean that some ps3 games dont come with lossless multichannel audio like BD movies? Ive read that only a few come with uncompressed pcm soundtracks and dont need to be "upconverted" to lossless. I just picked up uncharted 2 and I hear it does have 7.1pcm and it has better HD audio than most blockbuster movies.

If you are refering to the PS3 slim, than it will bitstream lossless formats. It was a feature that was added with the slim version. If your receiver is displaying PCM Stereo then your PS3 is decoding the audio and sending it out as 2ch Stereo, there is no such thing as upconverting to lossless. If Uncharted 2 is a 7.1 PCM than you should be displaying PCM 7.1 (if indeed you are set up for 7.1). MY Pioneer Elite receiver displays PCM and displays which channels are active, I suspect your Pioneer receiver should do the same.

No, there are no games with lossless audio that I've ever seen or heard of.

Yes there is a way for the PS3 to send the new multichannel formats via HDMI as PCM, but your receiver has to have the ability to decode them. If you are using optical, then lossless will be passed as 2ch only.

Oh I have everything hooked up via hdmi and my receiver is brand new pioneer elite. I am getting everything as pcm 5.1 surround sound no problem according to what my receiver says. What I was asking is if there are any games that have lossless audio internally on the disk itself, not just compressed audio and then bitstreamed as lossless pcm for the receiver to decode and play. My ps3 is the limited edition mgs4 40gb one, and all ps3's have HD audio decoding(dts hd ma, dolby trueHD, lpcm) but that doesn't make any bit of difference in the sources audio. I have the audio options in the XMB interface to play all the HD audio sources if the disk has them, I'm just wondering what games actually have them. Obviously games have a ton of graphical data on them so I didn't know if there was any room left on any disks for lossless audio. Uncharted 2 used every bit of the 25gb's on the disk I read somewhere and in the audio options in the game you can choose the game to put out 5.1 or 7.1 pcm audio and choose the maximum setting for no compression. I played my copy of the game last night for the first time and chose those audio options in the game and it really is amazing with the audio quality. The voices were so crystal clear its as if they were in the room with me and in the beginning when the girl knocks on the door, I swore someone was knocking on my apartment door. It was pretty incredible, it just had to be real lossless audio. I mean I haven't heard some of my movies with this kind of clarity.

I now need to go back and replay all my games since my HT setup is brand new and see how the multichannel audio is on killzone2, mgs4, uncharted 1, and other games I have.

Actually, Uncharted 2 for PS3 has uncompressed PCM 7.1... it's the first game I've noticed with it... so now I kinda check all my new PS3 Games Audio settings to see if there is an option available.

There was one other new title that supposedly has uncompressed as well, though I highly doubt this is in-game. It is most likely during cut scenes, just like some of the other games that had dts actually only had it in cutscenes.

I just registered to chime in on this thread.

The PS3 is capable of decoding at most 7.1 of uncompressed PCM audio for games. NOT just in cut-scenes, during actual gameplay as well.

Virtually every Sony-produced PS3 game supports either 5.1 or 7.1 PCM audio, there are several other non-Sony games that support 5..1 PCM audio as well.

Uncharted 1 and 2, Resistance 1 and 2, SOCOM: Confontation, Siren, Genji, Infamous, Warhawk all support 5.1 or 7.1 uncompressed PCM audio to my knowledge.

Other titles like Sega's Virtua Fighter 5, Capcom's DMC4, EA's Mirror's Edge and I believe Dead Space ALSO support 5.1 uncompressed PCM audio.

Some games opt to support in-game, lossy DTS streaming at 1.5mbps as well for older receivers that only support optical audio (you must set it manually beforehand on the PS3 settings menu depending on the game).

Just wanted to clear that up.
