cool and thanks for the fast reply

alright

The dvd has hdmi, components, s-video and analog. (no optical)

My tv has the same plus vga.

I've tried everything I could think of without a receiver and nothing.

The DVD functions are dvd, turners, tv/video and audio... I tried with all, but specially with tv/video and audio functiosn and nothing.

If you need any more info please tell me

The DVD is a S-MASTER Digital Amplifier DAV-HDZ235
PS3
Visio LCD 1080i

What brand is it? It should have the AVR built in and the PS3 should work via HDMI.did the thing come with an instruction manual? I can help you for a few more minutes but company is about here for Christmas dinner. Seth is on here today so he can also walk you through it. It is pretty dead on here because of the Holidays.

ohh sorry.. I wrote it on my first post.

It's a DVD Home Theatre System DAV-HDZ235 S-master digital amplifier.

It also says on the box Bravia theatre... Apparently a compatibility with bravia HDTV's via hdmi.

Inputs/Outputs
Audio Line IN (Analog) x 1
Audio Input (Front, Mini) x 1
Video Signal OUT (Composite) x 1
Video Signal OUT (Component) x 1
Video Signal OUT (S) x 1
Video Signal OUT (HDMI – Upscale 720p/1080i for DVD) x 1
D.C.A.C. Auto Calibration: Bronze
Speaker Terminals: Front, Surround, Centre, Subwoofer
Headphone Jack: 3.5mm

It doesnt seem to have any inputs outside of the analogs. I believe you need HDMI or Comp inputs for the PS3.

LOL.:D

How are you attempting to connect the PS3 to the head unit of the HTIAB system?

Well you have to connect the stereo Audio wire from the PS3, or directly connect the PS3's HDMI into the TV and use the analog audio output on the TV to the audio input on the HTIAB.

Correction; you can use the analog in you just wont have much in the way of HD. Can you see the PS3 on your display? You should be able to make the settings under 'system set-up' to get you going.

It appears that the Sony DVD system is EXTREMELY limited in it's input ability. The only way I can think of doing this is to run the PS3 to the TV with HDMI and try to run analog audio out of the TV into the front AV input of the DVD system. This may or may not be possible depending on whether the TV will output an audio source that is input through HDMI.

Edit - darn, Seth got here first. Also, I don't think you can hook up both HDMI and analog output from the PS3 simultaneously, so the sound would have to come from the TV to the DVD. You could use the PS3 proprietary analog connection. Send component to the TV and audio to the DVD, but I don't think you will get Blu-Ray capability this way.

@ Davemcc

yeah I don't think you can, but I tried that too and didn't work..

I'm going to try it again though..

@ greg.. I have a VISIO LCD

@ Seth... I was just connecting the dvd HTS to the tv with the PS3 already connected via hdmi to the tv and trying to run sound through the dvd sound system... do you understand what I was trying to do??? I think I didn't explian it very well.

You say you just bought the DVD system. Is there a chance that you can return it for refund or exchange? It doesn't look like it's going to do what you need it to do.

dave

yep.. I think I'm going to have to return it.

It was a gift from my gf and I didn't want to make her feel sad because she got it for me specially for the PS3..

it's from cotsco so it shouldn't be a problem returning it.

The PS3 to the display via HDMI and the to the AVR via anaglog should work but your best option is to start over with a system that atleast has a digital input.

I'm suggesting that this won't work, based on a trusted source in Avaserfi Here, Post #7. It looks like the only options are 1) to use component to TV/audio to receiver or 2) get an HDMI receiver that processes audio.

I just dug the PS3 box out to take a look and you are correct. The cable is one or the other and noway I can see to make it work properly with the Sony AVR.
