PS3 dropping our Sound on BluRay

My PS3 has started to intermittently drop out sound while playing Blu-Rays. I have no issues with games or while streaming movies, only during Blu-Ray playback. There is no consistency that I can determine to what the cause would be. My Onkyo Receiver display shows no input on the display. Usually If I disconnect the HDMI and reconnect it will pick it back up. Do you think my HDMI cable has an issue or maybe something in my output setup menu on my PS3?

Thanks

Jeff

Do you have it set to bitstream or PCM? Does the 805 handle bitstream? It was working fine previously and now it started to do this? It actually sounds like a handshake issue, but not sure.

Yes. I has worked fine up until now. I did have to break all my equipment down recently and move it to a new location. Since I have done that, I have been seeing the issue. I will check the BitStream output setting on the PS3 tonight. I am just trying to figure out why it only would be on Blu-Ray and none of the other media I am using on the unit? I even watched a "normal" DVD and it did not have issues either.

I checked and I am set to Bitstream....and my reciever does handle this.

Like I said, it sounds more like a handshake issue than a setting, since it was working before. It is possible there is something wrong with the cable, but then I would expect it to simply not work at all or you would have other issues as well. Did you do the recent updates for the PS3 (3.40 and 3.41)? Perhaps a setting got changed in there - I'd recheck all the BD and audio settings.

I have had somethig similiar happen and I messed with the settings, I forget what I did exactly but haven't had a issue since

It's the 805 that has the issue, I had the same exact thing happen with me, what is happening is that the HDMI port on the 805 is slowly failing and soon it won't work at all. Mine did the same exact thing with Blurays, but played games just fine. I finally had to unhook my sat box HDMI and use optical from the Sat so that I could get lossless audio out of the two remaining working HDMI ports.

I actually sent my 805 to Colorado to get fixed (amp wouldnt power on under warranty and had them upgrade the firmware and fix that HDMI port, but the same port went bad about two months after getting it back and having to ship that beast back just want worth the effort.
