Running over HDMI to an Integra 7.8 (Onkyo 805).

Playing a normal CD, can't get surrounds or anything out of the sub.

What settings work for you?

Cheers

Davo,

I would be inclined to say that this has something to PCM via bitstream audio output settings on the PS3. Playing a normal CD with PCM output you will only get your L and R channels...as the receiver is doing no decoding. Check and try setting the PS3 to bitstream, as this will allow for your AVR to do the processing and will utilize the .1 (subwoofer) and if you want to use ProLogic or other processing for surround channels on music as well....

Thanks for the quick reply, I didn't think of that. Will report back.

It sounds like you need to look at the settings on your reciever. CD's are 2 channel, so unless your avr is set to play those as multichannel, there is no reason for you to get sound from the surrounds. Nothing from the sub could be a crossover issue or again a setup issue. What does your avr indicate it is doing with the music when you play a cd?

I have to use FS focus or wide on my Elite to get surrounds and sub to work off HDMI out from PS3.

Must...destroy...Audyssey

I remembered I ran Audyssey for the first time the other night. Got into the eq settings and changed my mains from full range back to 80hz and that seemed to fix it. The sub was detected by Audyssey and set to 'ON'
For the record I didnt personally hear any difference after running Audyssey, even though it did seem to get the distances correct.

Chopin Guy, the PS3 doesn't bitstream. The chip that processes the sound physically cant do it. (surely there is a workaround for this, c'mon Sony)

It doesn't bitstream the HD codecs but lower resolution formats like CD audio and normal dolby digital I thought it did....my apologies. I was having the same issues with the Denon DVD3910 with my AVR....

Unless if you can tweak the settings in your AVR, I think the receiver is going to do exactly what the signal is telling it to and since the PCM signal comes in as a simple 2.0 you are going to get no sub....

You are right. The PS3 does bitstream low resolution codecs.

Turn on PLXII Music.

Your 805 will then emululate the other channels.

I have the same reciever and it works for my 360 and comcast cable box.

I can try it on my PS3 when I go to lunch to see if it works the same way.
